Board Meeting Minutes

June 8, 2017

Present: Koberlein, Crawford, Kamnick, Arnold, Hough, Director Karnes.

Guests: JoAn Evans.

The library board meeting was called to order at 7:04 by President Koberlein.

The minutes of the May 11 meeting were read and approved (see attached).

Motion by Crawford, seconded by Arnold to approve and pay the bills. Motion carried.

Director Karnes turned in the approval renewal agreement for the fiscal year of 2018 from the state. She also gave an update on patron issues she was having. She noted that the library is out of single DVD disks and paper. She will order these from Amazon.

JoAn Evans said the Beecher City Library Branch is still having trouble with the computers. If she is on the computer and someone comes in and gets on a computer she will get knocked off hers. She notified Wayne about this. She had 15 children at the summer reading program. The kids loved the Sheriff’s Dept that came to the library. She also had seven at the book club. Don is coming in to paint the library walls and said they didn’t need to close for him to do his work.

Connie Hough took the Oath of Office and is seated as a new board member.

Nineteen children attended the summer reading program at the St. Elmo Library.

Twenty-nine children attended the Brownstown Branch Library summer reading program. Douglas Hart did the presentation, and she said they were great.

The board may need to do a new prevailing wage, because the state has passed a new one since we passed the last one. We will check into this issue.

The board is tabling the roof bid for the St. Elmo Library and also for the awning at the Brownstown Branch Library.

The board approved the McNaughton book lease program that we have been enrolled in.

Connie Kamnick gave an update about the Fayette County Bank being switched to United. The president said he would come and talk to us about it. He will come to next month’s meeting.

Connie Kamnick was in the St. Elmo Library last Tuesday and she could hear beeping noises. She was told it was someone’s phone. So Director Karnes will make signs to put up stating cell phones need to be silenced or turned off while in the library.

Director Karnes made note that they are having issues with paper towels and toilet paper disappearing more than usual. She was told to post a sign in the restroom stating that it is a federal offense to steal toilet paper and paper towels from the library.

A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Crawford, seconded by Kamnick at 8:01. Motion carried.
