Board Meeting Minutes

April 13, 2017

 

Present: Koberlein, Spitler, Wegscheid, Kamnick, Crawford, Denton, Director Karnes

Guests: Connie Hough, Wayne Moran, JoAn Evans

The library board meeting was called to order at 7:04 p.m. by President Koberlein.

The minutes of the March 9th meeting were read and approved (see attached).

Motion by Spitler, seconded by Wegscheid, to approve and pay the bills. Motion carried.

The St. Elmo Library District was awarded money from the Illinois Public Library Per Capita Grant in the amount of $4,789.08.

Motion by Spitler, seconded by Crawford to move money from MMDA Corporate to the checking account to cover expenses. $40,000 will be moved. $30,000 to pay bills, $10,000 to be paid towards the Beecher City Library loan, and an additional $5,000 will be earmarked toward a new roof for the St. Elmo Library. Motion carried.

Motion by Denton, seconded by Crawford to acquire New Wave at the Brownstown Branch Library. Motion carried. Connie Bingaman said the library could use their building next door for the summer reading program.

At Beecher City Branch Library Brad Reed is going to measure for and build new bookcases. These will be paid for with money from memorials. Don Miller repaired the wall, though it still needs painted. Six patrons attended the book club. There was no internet at the library last Thursday, Friday and Monday. Frontier was notified. JoAn is going to get bids for painting the bathroom floor. New gravel will be purchased for the driveway.

At St. Elmo Library they need a disk cleaner for their DVD’s that are scratched and dirty. Director Karnes will order one. She also said her church would like to borrow the libraries castle. They will also repaint it for the library as thanks for using it.

Director Karnes will order a garbage can carrier. A new hot water heater was purchased.

Motion by Spitler, seconded by Kamnick to purchase a new furnace and AC unit from Culbertsons Heating and Cooling for the back room of the library. Motion carried.

Motion by Spitler, seconded by Crawford to go into closed session at 7:58 p.m. Motion carried.

Motion by Spitler, seconded by Kamnick to leave closed session at 8:08 p.m. Motion carried.

Motion by Spitler, seconded by Crawford to pay Director Karnes a bonus of 30 hours at $15.00 an hour for the summer reading program. Motion carried.

Motion by Spitler, seconded by Kamnick to adjourn at 8:13 p.m. Motion carried.
