Library Policies

The following policies govern how we use our library.

Acceptable Use of the Internet and Library Public Computers

The Library reserves the right to limit, refuse, and/or ban any patron from using the library computers or other equipment.

Anyone under the age of eight must be accompanied by a parent or guardian while using library computers or library equipment.  Anyone under the age of eighteen must have permission on file from their legal guardian allowing them to use the Internet.  Computer usage is on a “first come, first served” basis.

Only library computer software and library CD-ROMs may be used.  Use of a non-Internet computer or other piece of equipment is limited to 30 minutes per day if someone else is waiting.  Use of the Library’s Internet is limited to one time per day per person for one hour. This privilege may be extended at the discretion of the library staff.

Material may be printed at the following costs:

     black & white pages cost $.15 per page;

     color copies are $1.00 per page.

Personal work may not be saved on the computer hard drive.

Copyright laws forbid duplication of copyrighted software.

Failure to comply with the Library’s rules concerning computer and equipment use in the library will result in the loss of computer and equipment privileges.  One incident in violation of the policy, the patron will be banned from the computer and equipment for six months.  A second violation of this policy will result in a permanent loss of computer and equipment privileges.

Acceptable Use of the Internet and Library Public Computers was updated at a meeting of the Board of Trustees of the St. Elmo Public Library District on January 12, 2012.
